Absolutely delighted that my 15th edition has the endorsement of The First Minister for Scotland. Also the endorsement of Albert Roux who kindly penned the Food Foreword for me. After all this is a ‘Scottish Publication’ and our association with France forms what we still call The Auld Alliance between our two countries.

Despite the recession and ‘credit crunch’ or whatever you want to call it the Country House hotel market has been as robust as ever. Ample evidence this year that many people stayed ‘at home’ although many took different holiday options such as self catering, camping & caravanning. During the months of August & September many hotels were finding it difficult to cope and had to turn people away. It’s a pity we have to cram all our holidays into such a short period! This is the only time that many people, especially families, can take their holidays.

Again I have included some old favourites within my personal selection with a few additions. Some, for one reason or another, have been deleted. Many will be known to you personally – a warm welcome assured and the care and comfort of the guest are paramount. Again I am grateful to my sponsors for their support of which a list appears on page 4 of the book.
