Once again a warm welcome to STEVENSONS – 2018 – the 23rd edition of Scotland’s Good Hotel & Food Book.

Scotland has enjoyed another ‘bumper’ season and visitors to our
country have exceeded all expectations. The weakness of the pound has certainly attracted many from overseas – in fact the Isle of Skye was a mecca for so many visitors this year I found it uncomfortable. Many hotels, bed breakfast units and guest houses found it difficult to cope and staff shortages presented a problem. Improvements will have to be made – staff and service are two of the most vital components of the overall operation. More training is required and there must be an ambition to create higher standards.

Once again I have travelled extensively this year to visit many country house hotels and restaurants. My personal collection includes some of the premier destinations in Scotland for the more discerning visitor. The location, accommodation, cuisine, some with excellent spa facilities, general housekeeping and staff are all pre-requisites for my personal selection.

Grateful to Ken Charleson of The Hebridean Princess who compiled the main foreword and Paul Whitecross, head chef at Trump International, Aberdeen for the food foreword.

Please visit the News page for an update on staff appointments, general news and activity within the industry.

I look forward with anticipation to my travels next year when I will compile the 24th edition of the book for 2019.

Once again I am grateful to my sponsors House of Bruar, Scotch Beef Club and Brodies Tea and Coffee for their continued support.
